As I write, I'm currently taking part in the first ALA Council session of this meeting. If I had to pick a theme for the morning, I'd say we're talking a lot about transparency. There is a sort of disconnect in what role ALA plays for those members and state chapter members that are unable to attend the conferences. A discussion about how we can create a buzz about Council leads to many other issues. In terms of transparency (Hey, Council, what have you done for me lately?), ALA is taking some small, but forward, steps toward better transparency. Just created, but not yet much populated with content is a Council wiki. it will be a good place for Councilors to collaborate on documents between meetings. Hopefully it will also become a place where conversations will take place about the issues that Council addresses during those meetings.. and between them.
