ILA Scholarship and Awards winners for 2000 Respond

Diane Broom

Tamra Hawley-House, Scholarship winner, is currently enrolled in graduate courses at Emporia State University in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Her scholarship has helped her to continue her studies.  Tammy’s fall classes included Theory of Organization of Information, Global Information Infrastructure, and Organizing Information. Tammy is more than half-way through her course of classes in pursuit of her M.L.S. degree.  She writes,

"It is my personal and professional goal to obtain additional knowledge and training in the field of library science.  These courses along with the generous funding provided by the Idaho Library Association are helping me to achieve these goals.  Thank you for your support.”

Scholarship winner Cheryl Bruce, Director at Meadows Valley Public Library, attended the ILA fall conference at Lewiston with the help of her scholarship.  Cheryl enjoyed workshops on grant writing, the legislature and library laws, fundraising, and media presentations.  She praised Mike Eisenberg’s workshop and speech.  Cheryl participated in Idaho State Library’s  panel discussion on LSTA funding, networked with other library folks, and came away with plans and ideas for her library.  She thanks the ILA for making this opportunity possible.

Lori Keenan, honored with a lifetime membership, says that she cherishes the honor as well as the people who inspired her “with their dedication, commitment and willingness to work for the greater good.”  Lori plans on attending future ILA conferences, but for now she is savoring her retirement and reading for the joy of it.

Librarian of the Year, Marlene Earnest, continues a busy year assisting students and staff at Vallivue High School and serving the Idaho Library Association.  Look for Marlene  at the ILA Treasure Valley Region Conference, April 21, at Vallivue High School.

The ILA Scholarship and Awards committee seeks members!  Members from northern Idaho are especially encouraged to participate.  Please call (208/384-4200), write (Boise Public Library, 715 S.
