Rand Simmons Resigns from State Library

Charles Bolles
Idaho State Library

Charles Bolles has been at the State Library for nearly 21 years.  As State Librarian, he is an ex officio member of the Executive Board of the Idaho Library Association.

Rand Simmons has resigned from the staff of the Idaho State Library.   His resignation was effective May 11, 2001.   Rand resigned in order to accept the position of Principal Library Information Specialist for the [Washington] State Database License project.

Rand joined the State Library staff in 1995 on a part time basis as the Health Sciences and Institutional Libraries consultant.   In 1997, Rand assumed the Networking Consultant on a full time basis.

One of the most significant accomplishments of Rand's tenure was the drafting of the RFP, coordination of the selection of databases, and ongoing administration of the LiLI-D statewide electronic database licensing.   Under Rand's leadership, LiLI-D has had a major impact on the services of public, academic, and school libraries throughout Idaho.

Other responsibilities under Rand's capable supervision including coordination of the programs and meetings of the LiLI Networking Board; serving as coordinator for the Information Technology Task Force (ITTF); serving as Idaho's E-rate Coordinator; consulting on Library Services and Technology Act networking grants; and serving as one of the moderators of the LIBIDAHO Listserv.  Rand is also a Past President of the Idaho Library Association.

Rand was a valuable member of the State Library's staff.  His contributions and active sense of humor will be missed.  The State Library is actively recruiting to fill the vacancy created by his resignation.
