Message from the ILA President
Larry Almeida, ILA President Welcome to the new electronic version of the Idaho Librarian! Last summer an overwhelming majority of members voted to move our means of communication with them to an online format. Over the past seven months, the board has grappled with how to do that. Thanks to the good work of our new Librarian editor, Sandra Shropshire, and ILA Webmaster, Dan Lester, here is the first edition in our new format. We hope you will enjoy it. On April 18th, the board had its final meeting
until we reconvene at the annual conference.
It has been a busy year. Besides
the legislative breakfast and meeting with the governor in January, ILA
was involved with legislative issues that demanded a good deal of
attention from our legislative chair, Vicki Kriemeyer Brown, and
lobbyist, John Watts. I
thank both of them for their hard work this year.
We have also been dealing with ILA's response to national
legislation: The Child
Information Protection Act or CIPA.
With the help of ALA Councilor Kay Flowers, we drafted a
resolution in support of ALA's lawsuit and voted to use $500 in
Intellectual Freedom funds to help pay for that effort. In addition, our
budget planning, changes to the constitution and by-laws, work on the
strategic plan for 2001-2002 and preparation for the annual conference
in Pocatello have engaged the board since October. Speakers & programs for the annual conference will have been finalized by the time you read this. The lineup looks very good-lots of learning opportunities for everyone. You will be hearing more about it from our conference coordinator, Marlene Earnest, who is doing an excellent job. Schedule time now to attend the preconference, October 2nd, and conference, October 3rd & 4th in Pocatello. Hope to see you there! |
