He has lived in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tuscaloosa, and Tokyo, Japan.  Wieland holds an MFA from The University of Alabama, and once served as fiction editor of Black Warrior Review. Wieland is currently a full professor at Boise State University, where he has taught for fifteen years. One of the founders of Boise State’s MFA program, he was its director for four years.

This year's All Conference Read, Memory Wall by Anthony Doerr, has been released in paperback.  This softcover edition will include Anthony’s newest story "The Deep". Memory Wall also won The 2010 Story Prize, a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, and was named a best book of the year by Amazon, the NYTimes, the Boston Globe, the SF Chronicle, and many other newspapers. Plus, the title story is being adapted as a feature film.
